At the time this story was written, Suzanne was 80 years old. She was born on October 20, 1938 at the Lord Dufferin Hospital in Orangeville, Ontario. When Suzanne was a child she lived in Grand Valley for 18 years. Then she went to Guelph General Hospital to train as a nurse.
One day Suzanne was going to the Young People Church Club. It was being held at the church that John went to in Orangeville. Every now and then Suzanne’s church and John’s church would get together to have a joint club meeting. Sometimes it would be at Suzanne’s church and sometimes at John’s church.
The two clubs would sing and talk together. Then one night John decided to call Suzanne and ask her out on a date. Suzanne was 19 at the time and John was 20. John and Suzanne dated for two and a half years.
They went on a lot of dates, and sometimes John would visit Suzanne in Guelph at her College. One night John and Suzanne were in John's car. John turned and looked at Suzanne and he said, “Suzanne, will you marry me?” It took Suzanne about one minute to think about it and then Suzanne said, “Yes, I will marry you!” John proposed to Suzanne in 1960 on the day Suzanne graduated.
In 1961 Suzanne married John. The wedding took place on July 22, 1961. She was 22 years old at the time. They were married in Waldemar, Ontario.
Suzanne knew that John was the one because John was very nice and sweet. They had a honeymoon. They went around the Great Lakes, like Lake Huron, Lake Superior and more. John and Suzanne had been married for 56 years when this story was written.
I hope that everyone finds a lasting love like John and Suzanne’s!
