Wendy and Anne have been good friends for 33 years. They met at Toronto Western Hospital when they were both working there as nurses. They have gone hiking in Scotland, went to Ontario Place for concerts, drove around Ontario, visited Montreal and have gone to Old Quebec City. Over the years they have had some incredible and hilarious adventures together.
Here is just one of those stories. One day Wendy and Anne were on their way to a birthday party in Ottawa. In the back of the car was Anne’s daughter’s Greyhound. His name was Bandit and he was very big.
He had a narrow head, long muscular legs, and he was three feet high and weighed about 85 pounds. The car was a hatchback so there was lots of room for the dog. It was a four-hour drive. They were on their way to Ottawa for Anne’s daughter’s birthday party.
Anne’s friend had made the birthday cake for the party. It was sitting in a box on the floor with no lid. After a couple of hours driving on the highway Wendy and Anne needed to take a break. When they got out of the car Bandit jumped from the back of the car to watch them stretch their legs.
Wendy and Anne walked away from the car and soon were out of sight. Bandit jumped up and down trying to see out the car window where they had gone. It seemed like a long time to him and they could tell he was excited because he was smiling when they finally came back to the car. But, when Wendy opened the car door they saw Bandit with his paws in the cake!
“Oh no”, said Wendy. They got the dog out of the box but his front legs and paws were covered in vanilla icing mixed with crumbly pieces of cake. Luckily, Bandit didn’t eat any of the cake or Wendy and Anne would have had to clean up another mess. After they wiped off Bandit and cleaned him up, Wendy and Anne just continued on the way to Ottawa because they didn’t have time to get a new cake.
