My GrandPal David grew up in Scotland and moved to Canada by boat with his family when he was nine years old. During his life, he lived in seventeen different houses: seven in Scotland and ten in Canada. One of those homes was in Mimico, a neighbourhood in Toronto. David said his favourite house was in London, Ontario, where he lived from 1983 to 1992.
It had a nice pool in the backyard, a great school close to home, and a neighbourhood he really loved. When David picked up the phone to call someone, he sometimes had to wait until another person finished talking. This happened because the neighbourhood used a party-line telephone system, which meant that several families shared the same telephone line. When David was little, he and his friends liked to make prank calls.
They would ask, “Is your fridge running?” The person would probably answer, “Yes,” and David and his friends would laugh and say, “Well, you had better go catch it!” David and his friends were always surprised that they did not get in trouble with their parents.
