For many years Beryl has travelled to British Columbia to visit her son and family. She mostly flies and it usually takes five or six hours. Beryl’s son lives in a big town called Chilliwack, BC. Beryl likes going to BC to visit her son and his family.
They would always go with Beryl on adventures together. Beryl is nice, kind, and funny. She is also adventurous and loves nature. Every time Beryl visited British Columbia it would be an amazing adventure!
One of Beryl’s adventures took place in the summer of 2008. Beryl went with her husband, son, and her daughter-in-law Julie to British Columbia to visit Beryl’s other son and his family that lived there. Beryl and her family first flew to Vancouver Island and then they went on a boat to a resort. The day after she arrived she woke up bright and early in the morning and went on a flat bottom boat that sailed down a river.
While Beryl, her son, and daughter-in-law were on the boat they saw light brown grizzly bears over on the shore. The boat stopped for a couple of hours and Beryl’s family quietly watched the bears. There was a mother bear, a father bear and their two cubs. The cubs were eating long grass from the shore of the water.
The 2 big bears were bigger than Beryl. She also saw two small whales and some deer too. Beryl stayed at the resort for two or three days. Beryl felt happy when she saw the bears in nature and she had a great experience.
In January 2017, Beryl went by train to British Columbia. She left from Toronto, Ontario. It would take four days to get to BC by train. The train went through Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta to get to British Columbia.
She liked it better than flying because she liked to see the sights. In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, she mostly saw flat grounds. There were a few trees but it was mostly just flat land and sky and the tracks were very straight. In Alberta, there were many evergreen trees.
The track curved around a lot. The train went through the Rocky Mountains. In British Columbia, the train drove by a big flowing river called the Fraser River. The river was very large and ran through the mountains, right beside the train tracks.
Beryl also saw some beautiful waterfalls. Because it was winter time, she saw a lot of snow on the mountains. There was a place on the train where there was a glass dome and you could see everything that the train goes past. Sometimes her train would have to stop and wait for freight trains to go by.
On the train Beryl got her own room. The room was very small. There were seats in the bedroom that turned into beds. There was a bathroom with a toilet, a shower and a sink.
There were TVs on the train to watch. When Beryl wanted to eat, she would go to the dining car. It was like a fancy restaurant with lots of choices. The food was also very fancy.
Beryl makes the trip to British Columbia every year. She is always happy to see her family out west. She only ever went once by train, but it was her favourite way to travel.
